About Believe in Me | Cougs 4 Kids

Believe in Me supports marginalized and first-generation youth through mentorship, education access, and opportunity. Cougs 4 Kids is a program focused on inspiring, mentoring, and developing young leaders through hands-on learning and leadership-building experiences.

We take youth safety seriously. Volunteers follow our protection-of-minors requirements and youth safety practices aligned with WSU’s UPPM 50.32 and our internal protocols, including photo/video consent and verified screening.

Volunteer Role Overview

As the Day Camp Director, you’ll lead the operational plan that makes Camp Coug feel easy, fun, and successful for everyone: students, campers, families, and our team. You’re the person ensuring the right details are handled at the right time—so the day runs smoothly.

Primary Volunteer Goals

  • Fun + success: everyone (campers and staff) feels the day was fun and they were successful in their roles.
  • Measurable impact: campers complete pre- and post-surveys so we can measure outcomes and improve year over year.
  • Safe, organized experience: youth safety, smooth logistics, and clear communication throughout.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and manage the run-of-show (agenda, transitions, staffing plan, contingency plan).
  • Coordinate key logistics: check-in/out flow, room/space readiness, supplies, signage, and accessibility needs.
  • Support recruiting/assigning volunteer roles and ensuring each person has clear expectations.
  • Partner with leadership to finalize schedules for April 1 & April 2, 2026 (100 campers/day).
  • Ensure survey execution: prep materials, timing, and collection for pre- and post-surveys.
  • Coordinate youth safety requirements: background checks, photo/video consent, and policy alignment.
  • Day-of leadership: lead briefings, manage timing, troubleshoot issues calmly, and keep the experience positive.
  • Post-camp wrap-up: debrief notes, survey handoff, improvement recommendations for next year.

Time Commitment & Scheduling Flexibility

This is a recurring annual volunteer leadership role. Planning starts remote and becomes more active closer to camp dates.

  • Typical commitment: 2–3 hours/week (or about 10 hours/month).
  • Flexibility: most work can be done evenings/weekends; we’ll coordinate around your schedule.
  • Camp days: April 1, 2026 and April 2, 2026 (100 campers/day).
  • Camp hours: 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM (Pullman local time).
  • Location: WSU Pullman campus (on-site presence required during camp days).

Location / Remote Volunteer Details

This role supports our broader footprint (Remote / Spokane / Seattle / Pullman / Hybrid). Planning can be done from anywhere, but the event takes place on the WSU Pullman campus.

  • Remote work: planning, checklists, coordination, documentation.
  • On-site work: event leadership and day-of logistics in Pullman (Apr 1–2, 2026).

Required Qualifications

  • Experience organizing events, camps, programs, or complex logistics with multiple moving parts.
  • Strong planning, follow-through, and calm decision-making under time constraints.
  • Comfort communicating with staff and volunteers (clear, kind, and direct).
  • Ability to be on-site at WSU Pullman for camp days (April 1–2, 2026).
  • Willingness to complete required youth safety screening and policies.

Preferred Skills

  • Hospitality, event operations, or camp leadership background.
  • Experience working with youth programs, schools, or community organizations.
  • Comfort using checklists, timelines, and shared documents to manage execution.
  • Accessibility-first thinking: making the experience welcoming to all students.

Training, Support & Supervision Provided

You won’t be doing this alone. You’ll be supported by Julie Wukelic (CEO) and the Cougs 4 Kids team. We provide templates, timelines, and guidance so you can lead confidently.

  • Role onboarding + success checklist.
  • Planning templates: run-of-show, staffing plan, supply list, contingency plan.
  • Youth safety briefing aligned with WSU UPPM 50.32 and our internal procedures.
  • Survey plan (pre/post) and collection process.
