Cougs 4 Kids, an initiative of Believe in Me, unites the passion and pride of Washington State University alumni, students, and volunteers to empower youth across Washington State. We create transformative programs that foster confidence, character, and community—helping kids thrive and reminding them they’re never alone on their journey.

We take youth safety seriously. Volunteers complete screening and training and follow our youth safety protocols for all events involving minors.

Volunteer Role Overview

As the Community Service Projects Director, you’ll create heart-forward service opportunities that are organized, accessible, and impactful—both in-person and virtual. From community cleanups to care kit builds, you’ll partner with nonprofits, community leaders, and student volunteers to deliver events that feel meaningful for participants and helpful for partners.

Primary Volunteer Goals

  • Safe and inclusive events: youth and volunteers feel welcomed, prepared, and supported.
  • Well-run logistics: the right permissions, materials, staffing, and timing—so the day feels easy.
  • Measurable outcomes: track attendance, feedback, and results to improve and report impact.
  • Youth leadership: students have developmentally appropriate roles that amplify their voice and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and coordinate monthly or seasonal service events aligned with Cougs 4 Kids’ mission.
  • Collaborate with WSU students, community partners, nonprofits, and youth to co-create engaging volunteer experiences.
  • Manage logistics: site selection, permissions, safety planning, materials, and scheduling.
  • Lead and delegate to the Cougs Care Crew across pre-event planning, on-site staffing, and post-event wrap-up.
  • Ensure youth participants have inclusive, age-appropriate roles that empower leadership and belonging.
  • Partner with Internal Communications and Marketing & Outreach to promote events and share impact stories.
  • Track attendance, feedback, and outcomes; share concise reporting back to Cougs 4 Kids leadership.
  • Uphold safety protocols and risk management procedures at all events.

You’ll coordinate a rotating, task-specific volunteer crew across the service event lifecycle. Roles are designed with clear instructions and minimal oversight needed.

  • Tech-literate in Google Workspace, Zoom, and shared project tools.
  • Emotionally intelligent; familiar with trauma-informed practices and youth safety (training provided).

Time Commitment

  • Monthly/seasonal planning cadence: varies by event cycle and community partner schedules.
  • Event weeks: additional time for final logistics, volunteer coordination, and safety readiness.
  • On-site time: in-person event leadership as needed (plus occasional virtual events).
  • Commitment: minimum one-year commitment.
